Meet Ashlee Brotherton

Owner and Head Designer

Ashlee Brotherton is the owner and creative mind behind Thistledown Floral. A former theatre and dance director, Ashlee’s training in visual execution of art informs her floral design work. She is intensely passionate about sustainable growing and floristry, growing many varieties of flowers herself in a boutique farm format, and brings a vibrant and compassionate energy to interactions with her clients.

Ashlee feels inspired by the landscapes and native flora of Michigan, creating designs to feel like an extension of nature. She uses her extensive knowledge of florals and growing to inform her creative decision, as well as her creative experience in dance and theatre.

Ashlee is the mother of two incredible children who take up much of her time and heart. She and her husband spend an inordinate amount of time reading and debating best authors. She feels most at home on any Lake Michigan beach and takes any opportunity to be on the water.

If you were to ask Ashlee what she likes most (besides her kids) she’d probably say drinking tea on a screened in porch during a thunderstorm. She is learning to sail (she’s still quite bad at it) and is determined that one day she will direct a Shakespeare play again (she’s pretty good at that).

But most of all Ashlee is wildly honored to be creating art out of the world’s most beautiful living materials as a backdrop for her couples’ most cherished memories.
